Biografia Grupo OPNI
Formed in 1997, initially, the OPNI Group was composed of about twenty young people living in the neighborhood of São Mateus, on the outskirts of São Paulo, who met with an ideal in common: to express through art the reality of everyday life that made them invisible, to opportunities and targets to compose stereotypes. Such an intention is reflected in the acronym that gives the group its name, which has already meant Unidentified Pixel Objects, Police Officers and Precious Nothingness. Currently, the name of the collective does not override definitions, meaning a personal war cry that represents the periphery.
With the inspiration of the community where they grew up and the strong influence of the Afro Brazilian culture, the traits developed by the OPNI Group reveal a peripheral and “artivist” look that goes through varied themes, building an equally beautiful and striking visual poetics.
She developed panels for the exhibition “Vila Como Ela É,” (2010) and participated in the 1st International Graffiti Fine Art Biennial at MUBE, (2010); interpretation of the panels “Guerra e Paz”, by Cândido Portinari, at the closing of the exhibition held in São Paulo, which honored the artist in the Memorial of Latin America, (2012); was awarded in the category Best Graffiti Group, 1st Street World Award, (2012); represented the Brazilian urban art at the 45th edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival “, in the United States (2014), winner in the category” Cultural Territories “of the Governor Award of the State of São Paulo for Culture (2015), among others .
